Reflections on Technology Management

September 2022 marked the end of almost 3 years of my consulting with Xerox's Elem Additive.

It was a unique journey, marked by amazing innovation, great progress and...well…one pandemic.

It seems like a good opportunity to reflect and share my experience on modern technology management:

  1. People are key. Managing people means: getting the right people in the right spots/roles, then providing them with the resources to do their job and support them with tough decisions.

  2. Communication is king. Ensuring communication upwards, downwards and sideways. Make sure that there is at least one person in the organization that makes sure information flows.

  3. Positive state of mind is crucial to innovating. When you are making something new, you must believe that there is a solution out there and that you will find it on time. How? See #4.

  4. Experience. Nothing can replace experience as a tool to mitigate innovation risks. You need at least someone in the team that is able to say: "I have been through something similar in the past; This is how we made it happen back then".

  5. Remote work - works!. And when it works, you get to use talent wherever you find it. Which goes back to #1.

Thank you guys for an amazing time together.

I had a lot of fun!
